Bedtime Stories
Calm endings, read aloud.
Bedtime stories here are built to wind down rather than up: nothing exciting in the last third, no cliffhanger, and an ending that settles rather than surprises.
Repetition is a feature. Refrains a child can join in with, and stories that follow the same shape each night, do more for a sleepy child than novelty.
They are written to be read slowly. Going at half the speed you think is right is usually the correct speed.
