Activities for Weekend.
Weekends allow the things that do not fit into a weekday: activities with a drying stage, a building stage, a going-out stage, or several sittings. This is where the more ambitious ideas live.
Many of these are worth doing with more than one child, or with a visiting cousin, and several turn into something that stays up for the rest of the week.
They still say how long each part takes. "A weekend project" should not mean an afternoon you cannot leave.

Monster Feet Painting
Paint the bottom of their feet and walk them down a roll of paper. Messy, hilarious, and over in ten minutes.

Handprint Turkeys for the Table
Draw round their hand, turn it into a turkey, write a name on it. Everyone gets one at their place.

Making a Playdate Go Well
Put the precious toys away first, have one activity that needs two people, and finish while it is still going well.

Turning a Box Into a Shop
A delivery box, a marker and whatever is in the cupboard. Then step back, because the play runs itself.

A bag, a walk, and a kitchen table. The collecting is half of it and the sorting is the other half.

Scooping Out a Pumpkin
The insides are the best part. Scooping is a proper sensory activity, and the washed seeds do a week of counting afterwards.

An Egg Hunt That Works for Every Age
The same hunt, three difficulty levels, so a two-year-old and a seven-year-old can play together without either being bored.

Painting With Water
A bucket of water and a big brush. They paint the wall, the fence and the path, it dries, and they do it again. No mess at all.

One paper plate, some paint and a lolly stick. Twenty minutes of making and an afternoon of being a tiger.

A halved potato, a shape cut into it, and a roll of plain paper. It looks far better than it has any right to.
