Gross Motor

Gross Motor ideas for children aged 2 to 8.

These are the activities for a child who has too much energy and nowhere to put it, including the ones that work in a small flat without anything getting broken. Balance, coordination and the confidence to try something slightly difficult all come from this kind of play.

Indoor gross motor is its own skill: a masking-tape line on the floor, cushions to jump between, a balloon that must not touch the ground. Outdoor versions are here too, but the indoor ones are the ones you will actually need at four o'clock on a wet Tuesday.

Every activity notes the space it needs and what to move out of the way first, because the usual reason these go wrong is a lamp nobody thought about.
